A 29-year-old Army captain from Lexington was one of three servicemen killed in Afghanistan this week, the U.S. Department of Defense announced Wednesday.

Capt. Andrew Patrick Ross died Tuesday after the vehicle he was in was struck by an improvised explosive device in Andar, Ghazni Province, according to the Pentagon.

Ross was a member of the U.S. Army Special Forces, known as the Green Berets.

Ross was on his second overseas tour and had more than seven years of service in the Army, according to a spokesman at the U.S. Army Special Operations Command.
