Eric was a saw gunner with 3/2 Infantry battalion out of Camp Lejeune. Eric’s battalion helped to clear the cities of Fallujia and Ramadi. On the day he was killed, his battalion was on a routine patrol for gasoline.
Eric had a great sense of humor and loved to laugh and joke around. Eric loved playing soccer, rugby, and pick-up games of football and wrestling with his brother Matt. He loved being part of a team but never wanted the attention to be on him.
Eric had a deep love for his family especially his sister Katie, his brother Matt and his Mom and Dad as well as his friends and his Marine brothers.
Eric was so proud of his Irish catholic heritage that he had a celtic cross tattoo printed on his forearm. Eric had a strong faith in God and would get his Marine brothers together to pray before each mission. Eric didn’t have a nickname but the Marines all called each other by their last names so he was called Herzberg.
Eric’s deepest desire was to become a United States Marine and to protect and defend our country which he loved so much. When asked by his worried Mom: “Eric why do you have to become a Marine?” He answered “Mom, it is what God is calling me to do.”
The workout was designed by Hudson River Athletics @hudsonriverathletics (Hoboken, NJ, USA). The original workout used 6 Rope Climbs instead of Double-Unders. In 2020, due to COVID restrictions, they subbed the 6 Rope Climbs for 100 Double-Unders.
Significance of the rep scheme is 10/21/6 for the month/day/year Lcpl Eric Herzberg lost his life.
